Artist Promotion Past and Present

The first Annual Meredith Sculpture Walk was a huge success in 2014.  Thousands of visitors and residents took the Walk.

The Meredith Sculpture Walk Committee promoted the exhibit, provided sculpture information, and presented artist contact details by:

  • installing an informational plaque at each sculpture
  • distributing 12,000+ printed brochures with walking map.
  • posting online, the map with direct links to each artist.
  • regularly issuing press releases.
  • conducting docent-led guided tours.
  • maintaining an active social media presence.

Online, print, and social media coverage was extensive and we have arranged even greater coverage in 2015.

History

In 2012, a volunteer committee began planning the Meredith Sculpture Walk.

Committee Chair, Bev Lapham, made formal presentations to  local town officials, civic groups, and businesses with a very positive response.

Subcommittees formed to strategize and to manage details including site selection, artist communication, jury formation, legal and logistical planning, promotion, beautification, installation, and so much more.

A Call to Artists went out in January 2014.

Applications arrived from artists throughout the Eastern United States.

25 sculptures were selected through an independent jury process.

Sculpture sites were matched to individual sculpture works to highlight and enhance their beauty

Meredith Sculpture Walk installations began in June 2014 on Main Street, in the Mill Falls Marketplace, and along Lake Winnipesaukee.

A Grand Opening Gala Celebration, in July, brought artists and the public together.

The Meredith Area Chamber of Commerce recognized it with the

2014 Civic Project Award.

Universally positive responses to the Meredith Sculpture Walk supported the decision to issue a Call to Artists annually.
