History
2018 will mark the fifth annual Meredith Sculpture Walk.
In 2012, a volunteer committee began planning the first Meredith Sculpture Walk. Committee Chairman, Bev Lapham, made formal presentations to local town officials, civic groups, and businesses with a very positive response.
Subcommittees formed to strategize and to manage details including site selection, artist communication, jury formation, legal and logistical planning, promotion, community engagement, beautification, installation, and so much more.
A Call to Artists for the first Sculpture Walk went out in January 2014.
Applications arrived from artists throughout the Eastern United States.
25 sculptures were selected through an independent jury process.
Sculpture sites were matched to individual sculpture works to highlight and enhance their beauty. Installations on Main Street, in the Mill Falls Marketplace, and along Lake Winnipesaukee commenced June 2014 .
The first Grand Opening Gala Celebration, in July 2014, brought artists and the public together.
The Meredith Area Chamber of Commerce recognized the Meredith Sculpture Walk with their
Civic Project Award.
Universally positive responses to the Meredith Sculpture Walk supported the decision to issue a Call to Artists annually.
The initiative has grown in participation, prestige, and popularity over the years! The number of applications has increased along with the number of sculptures accepted for display. Recently, the Sculpture Walk Committee was nominated for the NH State Council for the Arts, Governor’s Arts Award. The Committee anticipates the largest number of visitors yet, for the 5th Annual Exhibition as it coincides with a year-long celebration of the Town of Meredith’s 250th Anniversary
